Dr. Solomon's Anti-Virus Toolkit for Windows 95

The University of Washington has a site license for Dr. Solomon's
Anti-Virus Toolkit (AVTK) on all supported platforms. The
license permits University faculty, staff, and students to use
the AVTK programs on their university or personally owned
computers both on campus and at home. You can copy the program
files from the UW web site using a web browser or from the UW ftp
site using a file transfer program. You must be using a computer
registered in the 'washington.edu' domain to download these
programs. For more information about this program, you can copy
the vendor manuals at the Suzzallo or Engineering Library copy
centers. Friends or relatives not connected with the University
can buy Dr. Solomon's Anti-Virus Toolkit from one of the vendors
listed in the WHEREUSA.TXT file which is part of the Toolkit.
The files may be obtained from:

How to use these files:

To use these programs requires two separate procedures:
* Download the archive file to your PC and create diskettes
* Install the Anti-Virus Toolkit programs from the diskettes
To Download the archive file to your PC and create diskettes:

To download the archive file using a web browser:
1. Point your web browser to the web page named above.
2. Decide what operating system your personal computer uses
(DOS, Windows 3.x, Windows 95, etc.).
3. Click on the "Download" button for that operating system.
4. Wait while the archive file downloads.
5. See "To create diskettes ..." below.
To download the archive file using a ftp program:
1. Connect your ftp program to the ftp site named above, and
locate the archive file for your personal computer operating
system (Macintosh, DOS, Windows-3.x, Windows-95, etc.).
2. Set the ftp program to download in *binary* mode !!!
3. Download the archive file.
4. See "To create diskettes ..." below.
Diskette Creation
-----------------
To create diskettes using Windows:
1. Using the File Manager or Windows Explorer, locate the archive
file you just downloaded. Double-click on it to run the file.
2. This will start the WinZip Self-Extractor program, which will
tell you how many diskettes you need. Click the [Setup] button,
and wait while the program unzips each of the diskette-image files.
3. When unzip is complete, your system will switch into a DOS window
and the Self-extracting diskette image processor will start.

Self-Extracting Diskette Image Processor:

1. When the Self-extracting diskette image processor starts,
it will show the name of the first diskette to be created.
Label and insert a diskette. NOTE - Any files on it will
be deleted!
2. If you want to create this diskette, press [Enter].
If you want to skip to the next diskette, press [Esc].
3. After the diskette has been written, remove the diskette.
4. When you see: 'Press "Y" to do another copy:' ...
To make another copy of this -same- diskette, press "Y".
To advance to the -next- diskette in the set, press "N".
5. Continue creating diskettes until you finish the set.
6. WRITE PROTECT ALL DISKETTES to protect them from virus
infection; move the plastic slide so the window is open.

To install the Anti-Virus Toolkit programs from diskettes:

1. Boot your PC from the Dr. Solomon Magic Bullet diskette.
2. Choose <F3> to scan you computer.
3. If everything looks OK, go on to step 5. Otherwise go to step 4.
4. If you find a virus, choose <F4> to attempt to clean it.
5. Remove the Magic Bullet diskette from your computer and reboot
it into Windows 95 normally.
6. In the A drive, insert installation Disk 1 for Windows 95 Anti-Virus
Toolkit.
7. Click Start->Run
8. In the Open box, type A:\SETUP and press <Enter>. You are asked to
confirm that you wish to install the Windows 95 version of the
Anti-Virus Toolkit.
9. Press <Enter> to continue with the installation. The Toolkit is
installed on drive C in a folder called TOOLKIT, unless you
specify otherwise.
10. Follow the prompts and insert additional disks as requested.
If you want to re-install, you should first delete any files in the
Toolkit folder that were created in the original installation.
To run the Windows 95 Anti-Virus Toolkit:
1. Click Start, and choose Programs.
2. Click the Dr. Solomon's AVTK option. From the menu that
appears, click an icon to access various elements of Dr
Solomon's Toolkit.
If for some reason the Magic Bullet Disk does not work on your computer,
you can follow these alternate instructions for installation steps 1-3:
1. Boot your PC from a clean, write-protected, DOS system diskette.
2. In the A drive, insert Installation Disk 1 for DOS Anti-Virus
Toolkit.
3. Enter: A:\FINDVIRU /LOCAL
